By using SnapPetz you agree to the rules below. If any of them are dealbreakers, please don't use the app. Most of this is common sense; we're writing it down because the app stores require us to.

The app

SnapPetz is a hobby app that classifies real animals from your camera and renders them as collectible 3D figurines. It is provided as-is, free of charge, with no warranty of any kind. We may add features, change features, or shut things down at any time.

What you can use it for

• Snapping animals you encounter in real life: pets, livestock, wildlife.
• Building a personal collection of trait-stamped figurines.
• Sharing individual catches to friends or to the World Map, where you choose to.
• Showing the app to friends, posting about it on social media, recommending it.

What you can't use it for

• Snapping people. The subject gate rejects non-animal photos but please don't try to defeat it. The figurine pipeline is for animals, not humans.
• Snapping content that violates the NSFW gate. The classifier rejects adult content automatically; submitting such content repeatedly to test the limits is not a great use of anyone's time.
• Harassing people, animals, or businesses with shared map locations.
• Sharing locations that put yourself or others at risk. Map sharing is off by default — keep it off when you're at home, at school, at work, or near a vulnerable person.
• Reverse-engineering the on-device models for purposes that violate their upstream licenses (GantMan nsfw_model is MIT, DeepLabV3 is Apache 2.0, our trained heads are MIT).
• Resale of access to your account, or automated scraping of the World Map.

User-generated content

You retain ownership of the photos you take. By choosing to share a catch — to the World Map, to a friend, or via your phone's share sheet — you grant SnapPetz a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display that catch's metadata (species, rarity, trait list, timestamp, and, only if you opted in, the approximate location) in app surfaces other people can see.

We never receive the raw photo or the silhouette cutout when you share to the World Map; the cloud row is gameplay metadata only. See the Privacy Policy for the full inventory.

Animal welfare

Don't put animals in stressful positions just to get a rarer trait roll. Wild animals deserve their space; if a critter is fleeing, don't chase it for the catch. SnapPetz should be a gentle reason to notice the animals around you, not a reason to harass them.

Age

You must be at least 13 years old to use SnapPetz. If you're under the age of majority where you live, an adult should help you set up your account.

Accounts

Cloud sync is opt-in. If you don't sign in, the app works fully offline and there is no account to terminate. If you do sign in, you're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials safe. We may suspend or terminate cloud accounts that violate these terms.

No warranty

SnapPetz is provided "as is" with no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for incidental, indirect, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California.

Changes

We may update these terms over time. If we do, we'll bump the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use after that date counts as acceptance.
